We will index your WebSelf website when you register to one of our 3 WebSelf plans. To make a web site accessible to search engines, like Google, Yahoo or Bing, it must be listed in their index. We take care of this step once you have subscribed. By listing your web site, we indicate to the different search engines that your web site exists. Thereafter we give you the tools to improve your web site ranking.
Search engines can take some time to index your site. This period depends in fact on the search engines themselves. It usually takes a minimum of 5 to 10 days.
When we refer your website, we add your website to a list of site to index on search engines. Imagine this list on a worldwide level : each day, hundreds of websurfers add thousands of websites in order to be referenced. So, your website has been added the list in a chronological order and to an unknown position. When your turn will come, a crawler (indoxor robot) will scan your website's content.
Success in your indexation require work, effort and patience. Here are some informations of interest that should help you in this task.
Adding keywords
When you are registred, you can help your SEO by adding keywords to your pages.
To do this, click on the page icon, located on page top of the WebSelf editor, in the silver toolbar.
Choose one
page to edit. The most important page to add keywords to is always your Homepage.
A window will open
Click on the "SEO" tab
In this section, you can add a description for your page. This description wil be visible under your website name on result page of search engines.
Add keywords in the keywords field.

Your domain name, your page name and your keywords are all main elements to get a good SEO. Try to get a relevant domain name for your activity and use closely related words as much as possible. Example : Autodealer.com is precise but when you consider the millions of websites dealing with car dealerships, that name is not specific to your business. Cleveland-Audi-Dealership.com is much more precise and contains keywords to find your website more accurately
The same rule also applies to your page title. Take your time to add a relevant title when you add a page in your WebSlef website. The field "
page title" contains additionnal keywords to help you
Lastly, your website content is useful for crawlers. Each page will be scanned and all the words you use will be noted. The more a word is repeated logically, the more chances you have of having the crawlers consider it a keyword for your website.
How does the ranking work in the results of a search engine ? Most of search engines display popular websites first.
How does the search engines decide the popularity of a website?
Engines scan the each of the world's websites content very regulary and automatically, in order to find keywords which allows it to answer the users questions.
While scanning a site, they will also check the links contained within the website. The definition of a link is to point to another website or another webpage within the same site.
For search engines, these links are like votes. It means that each link, from another website to yours, is a vote for your website.
Example : here is a link pointing to the website
www.TrouverUnNom.com When a search engine scans this page, it sees : the WebSelf help guide website makes a vote for www.TrouverUnNom.com
The popularity of a website is then judged by the number of links (aka votes) pointing to this website.
So, it's logical to say that the more links you have pointing to your website, the more visitors you will have, because they give you a better chance of being ranked higher.
The more links you have pointing to you, the more your content should be interesting, so the more search engines judge your content as relevant compared to the other websites for your keywords.
Although, the weight of those votes is not equal! A link pointing to your website coming from
www.unknownwebsite.com will not count as much as a vote from www.Microsoft.com
It is a reality : no website is equal! The more the website is visited, the more search engines will calculate their vote as important.
For example, little forums, personal websites and professional websites (in green) point to WebSelf.net (in blue).
So WebSelf.net has an average reputation (or popularity).
Only one link from WebSelf.net to one of the the little green guys is enough to make it more popular than the others
But only one link from the yellow one (you guessed it, it is microsoft.com!) to your website (the red on your right) make it immediatly more popular than the green.
Now, how do you get a link to your website? Well here is the logic: the more your content is relevant, unique and researched, the more your website's readers will be interested in it. Supposed that those readers have their own website or blog, there is a good chance that they will want to put a link to your website on their own because the content is complementary to their website or answer one of their questions, etc.
You can also exchange links with partners or friends. You do a link to their content, they make one to yours.
The last criteria is the age of your website. The older a website is, the better it should be placed in the search results pages of search engines.
The PageRank The weight of all votes cast form what is called the PageRank. The higher your PageRank is, the more Google and others post your informations first search results related to your keywords. You have access to the PageRank of your page with the Google toolbar for browsers
A small diagram to explain that if PageRank takes time to get it right! Look at the height of the "steps" between the different stages! Websites with millions of visitors sometimes do not make the 7th step ...!! The green section is the bottom of the mountain. A PageRank of 5 is already considered a great success.

Google AdWords When you search in Google, you can see the advertisements that appear in the top right of the screen as follows
According to some studies, people click in the natural results as much as the ads (in red).
With these, you can now appear on the first page of results very fast, but of course there is a fee.
How does it works ?
Here is the ads result (so the results of the paid advertisement in the red areas) of the keyword "florist". In other words, this image represents what appears on the right when you search for "florist".

Lets look at the first result, Floraclic.fr.
If a user clicks on the advertisement, it will be redirected to the Floraclic.fr, which provides a new visit to Floraclic.fr and possibly, a sale.
When the user clicks on the advertising, Google bills a small amount to Floraclic.fr, according to the price per click for that keyword.
This is the search for "florist".
The three companies have therefore chosen "florist" as a paid keyword.
In other words, they specified to Google that if if someone searches for the word "florist", they want their site to be displayed.
The problem is that spaces are limited, and of course, the three enterprises would want the first place.
Therefore, there is a bidding system for such keywords.
So, for the keyword "florist", "Floraclic.fr" paid more than "Interflora.fr", because those guys only made second place and since they're second, "Interflora.fr" paid more than "Fleuriste.re-chercher.org" which is third.
A keyword can cost anywhere between $0.01 and $1+ the click. It really depends on the competition, Google will suggest you a price to maximise your budget. The more business that want to pay for a keyword, the more the bids go up and the price is high.
In English, some keywords can cost up to $50 per click! (the word insurrance for example)
Fortunetly, a keywords is not necessarily a single word. The keyword "florist" cost much more than the "florist in Michigan". Grouped keywords are more precise, thus maximising your investment will relevant search results only. You will then be certain that if someone clicks on your link and that this click is billed to you, he is more likely to be really interested, because he wanted a florist in Michigan.
You can also choose a daily budget and the region to target for your advertisement campaign.
It's pretty simple to set up, just follows the steps proposed when you register.
